“I had trouble living a balanced life before I came to the church in 1977, but the mercy of the Lord and the kindness of His people is what helped me get my life together. The people didn’t judge me and sincerely wanted the best for me. I never felt that type of love before. When I came into the church I didn’t have much to wear and people would give me clothes. That same love is still here nearly forty years later.
“I would have never graduated from college, maintained a good job, have any natural achievement and be a productive citizen if it were not for the Lord leading me to His church. When I came to church, I was not familiar with the scriptures; it was like reading a difficult novel and not understanding the plot, but when I heard the Word of God from a man of God it was revolutionary. I began to read the New Testament first and it was amazing. The Book of Acts was an eye-opener. I was blown away to learn about a vision of a church, how it came about, the Holy Ghost being poured out, and people having all things common and willing to go to jail and sacrifice their life for what they believed. That commitment and depth was truly remarkable and is something that I strive for today.”
